Eco-friendly moveable walls a key criteria for sustainable offices

2020-10-22

Flexibility and sustainability will be key factors for new office builds and refurbs as the green agenda continues to strengthen and social distancing drives a more adaptable way of working.

Julian Sargent, group managing director of Style, the UK’s leading moveable wall specialists, argues that the pandemic will create a long-term shift in building design at a time when there are also strict targets and regulations in place for building sustainably.

“Sustainability is driving the new build and refurb sector,” says Julian, “and we are always asked about the eco-credentials of our moveable walls.

“For us, that’s not an issue as we were the first ever UK supplier of EPD certified moveable walls in accordance with ISO 14025 and EN15804 which means we can develop highly adaptable and flexible workspace that is also at the forefront of environmental efficiency.

“This means, as architects look to develop more flexible work areas to cater for the potentially long-term cultural shift where many people could continue working from home but come into the office safely and socially distanced for networking and human interaction, we can create that flexible and safe working environment sustainably.”

The EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) is the pinnacle of product sustainability and is of importance to anyone seeking solutions for BREEAM, LEED and SKA.

It communicates the environmental performance of a product and, for each product, a life cycle analysis (LCA) is carried out in accordance with ISO 14040. By having an EPD means architects and contractors can participate in tenders involving sustainable building certification procedures.

“Thanks to our exclusive UK partnership with Dorma Huppe, we are very proud to lead the way – not only with a range of world-leading moveable wall solutions but ones at the forefront of the green agenda too.

“It’s for this reason why we are chosen for many very high profile installations in some of the greenest buildings across the UK – a good example being KPMG in Canary Wharf which is at the forefront of green efficiency.”
