Divide your room space and save on energy bills

Schools, community centres, churches and other venues that have open plan space can help reduce their energy bills through a moveable or folding wall.

That’s the advice of Michael Porter, group sales director at leading partitioning experts Style, who says that one option for tackling soaring energy bills is to only use the room space that you need, and to maximise any room hire potential to help pay for rising costs.

“By installing folding or moveable walls, you can divide a large room into two, three, four or even more smaller rooms,” said Michael.

“As a result, you only need to heat and light the smaller areas you are using, and if you rely on hiring out your facilities you can increase your revenue potential by hosting multiple events at the same time.

“Take, for example, a folding wall installation at Christ Church in Sidcup. Here we first installed a glazed folding wall to separate a community room from the main church hall, and then we were invited back to install an additional solid folding wall to further separate the community room into two.

“That means when there are no community events taking place, there is no need to heat or light that area, and thanks to the latest folding wall installation and its impressive 42dB acoustic rating, two gatherings can take place in that space rather than one.”

As the UK’s leading moveable, folding and partitioning wall specialist, Style has extensive expertise across all market sectors – a key area being where room hire is vital to generating important income.

“We have many case studies where we have created flexible space in the hospitality sector, at local authority venues and for businesses that provide meeting room hire,” continued Michael.

“However, now we are finding that sub-dividing space is also seen as a great way to only heat or light the areas being used, which is at the forefront of most people’s minds in the current economic climate.

“In fact, by installing a folding or moveable wall with a high acoustic rating and a pass door, means it can remain as a semi-permanent fixture during the winter and only be opened up for larger events.”
