Eco-friendly moveable walls a key ingredient for sustainable construction

The UK Government’s 2050 net-zero strategy requires the construction industry to adopt sustainable materials and methods.

With flexibility being key to many new builds and refurbs, the environmental credentials of moveable walls has never been more important.

According to Andy Gibson, Style’s director for the North, demand for adaptable room space has never been higher, all at a time when there are also strict targets and regulations for building sustainably.

“Sustainability is driving the new build and refurb sector,” says Andy, “and we are always asked about the eco-credentials of our moveable walls.

“For us, we were very proud many years ago to be the first ever UK supplier of EPD certified moveable walls in accordance with ISO 14025 and EN15804 and since then we have been creating highly adaptable and flexible workspace using moveable walls that are at the forefront of environmental efficiency.

“This means, as architects look to develop more flexible space in places such as offices, educational establishments, hospitality venues, conferencing facilities, churches and local authority venues we can create that flexible environment sustainably.”

The EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) is the pinnacle of product sustainability and is of importance to anyone seeking solutions for BREEAM, LEED and SKA.

It communicates the environmental performance of a product and, for each product, a life cycle analysis (LCA) is carried out in accordance with ISO 14040. By having an EPD means architects and contractors can participate in tenders involving sustainable building certification procedures.

“Thanks to our exclusive UK partnership with Dorma Huppe and Dorma Skyfold, we are very proud to lead the way – not only with a range of world-leading moveable wall solutions but ones at the forefront of the green agenda too.

“It’s for this reason why we are chosen for many very high profile installations in some of the greenest buildings across the UK – good examples being KPMG in Canary Wharf and Coventry Building Society’s headquarters.
