Sustainable Solutions Growing in Importance

The ability to offer sustainable partitioning wall solutions is fast becoming an essential aspect of specifications for both new build projects and refurbishments.

According to Mike Fine, Style’s director for the Midlands, the ability to evidence your ‘green’ credentials is growing in importance as demand for ever more eco-friendly solutions increases.

“Questions regarding the sustainability of partitioning walls are now far more prevalent than they were a few years ago,” said Mike.

“And as the first ever UK supplier of EPD certified moveable walls in accordance with ISO 14025 and EN15804, we are extremely proud to be leading the way in the provision of environmentally friendly moveable wall solutions.

“Our EPD, environmental product declaration, applies to DORMA’s Variflex, Moveo and Varitrans products and is the pinnacle of product sustainability.

“It is of particular importance to anyone seeking sustainable solutions for BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method), LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and SKA (Measuring the environmental effects of an office fit-out).

“The EPD basically communicates the environmental performance of a product, and for each product a life cycle analysis (LCA) is carried out in accordance with ISO 14040.

“By having an EPD means architects and contractors can participate in tenders involving sustainable building certification procedures.”

The EPD covers a number of key criteria including global warming potential (GWP), cumulative energy demand (CED) arising from each products’ manufacture, total weight of the production waste recycled at the pre-consumer stage, and total weight of the production waste recycled at the end of the product’s life.

Skyfold, Style’s vertically rising, fully automatic, acoustic moveable wall is also constructed from mainly recyclable materials which provides tremendous advantages to earn points required for LEED certification.

Style is also accredited by ISOQAR to a UKAS standard for ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management System, positioning the company and its products at the forefront of sustainability in the partitioning, moveable walls sector.
