Hirwaun Primary is a school set in spacious grounds in the heart of Hirwaun village, South Wales. Benefiting from a new £10.2m building with 21st Century facilities the school opened its doors to its new premises in the Autumn of 2020.

To make the best use of space in this new, modern school building Style worked with main contractor Morgan Sindall and architects, Boyesrees, to install a Dorma Huppe Variflex moveable wall in one of the main classrooms.

Style’s operable wall solution was selected by Morgan Sindall following their tender process – the final solution giving teaching staff the freedom to separate the room into two with ease or open it up into one large teaching space.

With an impressive 55dB Rw acoustic rating, once the wall is in place classes can run undisturbed either side making this an ideal solution for a busy school with a wide variety of activities every day.

Its pearl grey melamine finish fits in perfectly with the rest of the classroom and, with new social distancing measures being a priority for all educational establishments, its gives Hirwaun Primary the ability to sub-divide space quickly to reduce classroom numbers.

“We were delighted to be entrusted by Morgan Sindall and the school to deliver a moveable wall solution for them,” said Julian Sargent, Style’s group managing director.

“The Variflex system is perfect for any school, college or university seeking to add flexibility into their teaching areas and we offer an extensive range of partitioning solutions for all requirements and budgets.

“This manually operated wall was ideal for a primary school as it can be moved in and out of position effortlessly, and if any of the panels are scuffed or damaged they can be easily changed without having to replace the entire wall.”
