Working with main contractor, Willmott Dixon, and Franklin Ellis Architects, Style was specified to optimise the use of space in the meeting areas of the Council’s newly restored City Hall; originally a 1930s art deco building called Attenborough House.

In two ground floor meeting rooms, DORMA Variflex was installed in a stylish high pressure laminate finish; a hugely versatile moveable wall system, ideal for complicated room proportions and older buildings.

Offering outstanding Rw58dB acoustic integrity, when the walls are in place this is bordering on a soundproofed solution enabling meetings to be conducted in privacy. Quick, light and effortless to manoeuvre, they can be opened and closed to accommodate varying requirements, providing open plan meeting space or individual rooms at a moment’s notice.

“As well as its versatility to accommodate a wide-range of buildings, and its phenomenal acoustics, the panels are manufactured separately to the frame, which means if one is damaged or scuffed, or the interior design of a room changes, they can be swapped at much lower cost.
