University’s moveable wall enjoys continued smooth operation

A number of years ago Style installed four DORMA Huppe Variflex moveable walls and a Skyfold, vertically rising, fully automatic moveable wall at a Scottish University.

All five walls offer outstanding acoustic integrity making them a vital facility for sub-dividing rooms when multiple lectures, seminars or tutorials are taking place.

Since their installation, Style has provided routine servicing of the walls as part of a service agreement and at a recent visit it was clear that the rubber gasket on one of the Dorma walls had been damaged.

While this does not completely hinder the use of the wall, small damage like this can impact on the acoustic barrier provided by the wall, as well as its smooth operation. Over time, minor damage can also develop into a far greater issue by placing a strain on the wall’s operation causing stress on other parts.

It’s for this reason why routine service visits by qualified moveable wall technicians is so important. A small tweak while on site can be the type of proactive maintenance that ensures the wall’s longevity and continued service to the University.

“This is precisely the sort of small, yet important, repair that our technicians can carry out while on site for a service visit,” said Angela McGowan, Style Scotland’s sales and service manager.

“To the untrained eye, this might look like a fairly innocuous scuff, however it can worsen over time and develop from being a quick fix to something far more serious and costly.

“It’s for this reason why service contracts are so invaluable. A relatively small investment in scheduled visits to carry out operational, health and safety, and acoustic checks can save thousands in the long run and in some cases moveable walls can last up to 25 years if cared for and routinely serviced.”

All Style’s engineers are fully trained and experienced to work on all makes and types of folding partition systems and have been trained in health and safety, asbestos awareness, risk assessment, and PASMA. Style is also CHAS and ConstructionLine accredited.
