Baker McKenzie brings insight and foresight to clients across more than 70 global offices. Its team of 13,000 people, including over 6,500 lawyers and tax professionals, work alongside its clients to drive growth that is both sustainable and inclusive.

At Baker McKenzie’s offices in London, Style worked with architect, Hassell, and contractor, Mace Interiors, to give flexibility in two key areas; the multifunction space and a terrace floor with views of the city.

In the multifunction space, Style developed a truly innovative solution by combining 3 Skyfold vertically rising walls and a Dorma Huppe Variflex ComfortDrive glazed wall to form a self-contained room in an open plan area, which can be further divided into two individual meeting rooms.

To achieve this, the fully automatic, glazed Variflex wall moves into place to create an outer periphery to the conference room, forming a new corridor with pass doors for ease of access.

The 2 Skyfolds then descend automatically from the ceiling to form the end walls, closing the room into a ‘box’ configuration.

The additional Skyfold, located in a ceiling cavity in the middle of the room, can then be used to further sub-divide the room into two individual units, as required.

Upstairs on level 11, Baker McKenzie has a terrace offering a stunning city vista.

This area can remain open plan, however a semi-automatic Dorma Huppe glazed moveable wall enables the creation of a private dining area or meeting room whilst continuing to enjoy the views.

Within the building, Style also installed a further 2 glazed Variflex moveable wall and 3 additional solid Variflex moveable walls to give additional flexibility within the company’s meeting suites, making this a truly adaptable office.

“The vertically rising, fully automatic Skyfolds in the conference room offer phenomenal 60dB acoustic ratings, and the glazed moveable walls a 52Db rating,” said Michael Porter, Style’s group managing director. “This means meetings and client functions can take place in complete privacy when the walls are in place.

“The creation of the conference area is also a first in the way we used the 2 Skyfolds to abut both ends of the glass moveable wall, with the additional Skyfold down the centre.

“As a fully automated solution, it also offers some serious wow-factor when the walls are moving into position, making this not only a highly flexible solution but a real showcase in office design too.”
