Wallyford Learning Campus, East Lothian, is a place where the local community can learn, meet and grow together.

The building has been designed to complement the neighbouring Wallyford Primary School with extensive glazing, access to natural light and brick-clad facades.

Working with JM Architects and Morrison Construction, Style was specified to enable the main assembly and drama hall to be divided into two separate rooms as and when required, offering the campus greater flexibility to adapt the use of this central area.

To achieve this, Style installed a Dorma Huppe Variflex ComfortDrive moveable wall with fully automatic operation.

At the push of a button, the moveable wall glides into place, dividing the room into two and forming an impressive 57dB acoustic barrier. This means a noisy class on one side won’t disturb more quiet teaching on the other.

“This is a large space with a high ceiling,” said Angela McGowan, sales director for Style Scotland. “As a result, the panels are 4.6 metres tall which is why the fully automated operation is an advantage, as it would be more difficult to manoeuvre these larger panels by hand.

“By having the moveable wall in place it opens up new options for Wallyford Learning Campus in terms of how they use the space – changing it from two rooms into one very large, open plan area in a matter of minutes. It also means in winter they can save on heating and lighting by closing off the area not in use.”

The Variflex moveable wall has a chic, black laminate finish to complement the styling of the hall and an important feature is that each panel can be replaced individually if it gets damaged or scuffed. This is an advantage in busy public places, such as school and colleges, particularly where children may be undertaking drama or sports classes.

Style also has a UK-wide service and repair team, with service contracts available to ensure your moveable wall provides many years of smooth operation.
