Lymm Fire Station is a new build, full time cover fire station, to improve response times across Cheshire, Halton and Warrington. As well as full fire fighter training facilities, it is also a Cheshire Interactive Life Skills Centre known as ‘Safety Central’ - educating people of the hazards they are most likely to encounter in and around their homes and communities.

Working with architects, TACP of Wrexham, and Main contractor ISG, Style was asked to create flexible room configurations whilst maximising the feeling of space and light. DORMA Varitrans is a single glazed moveable wall with the option of either manual or fully automatic operation, and was the perfect solution for Lymm Fire Station’s requirements.

One Varitrans gave staff the ability to divide floor space into two individual rooms for training, presentations and meetings, or open it up into one group space for larger gatherings and conferences.

A second Varitrans with a faceted track gave the appearance of a curved screen when closed creating a private, yet airy and light, room for the Life Skills Centre. Each glass moveable wall system was etched in a cool design, making the area not only practical, but also stylish for the many visitors expected each year.

“We were delighted to have been specified for this very high profile new build project,” said Andy Gibson, Style’s director for the North.

“Varitrans is ideal for projects such as Lymm Fire Station as well as shop fronts, restaurants, church halls, airports, showrooms or offices, where space division is required without the need for acoustics.

“As the photos show, it can be fully customised with screen printing, sand etching and logo placement, and single and double pass doors can be incorporated allowing easy access when the wall is in position.”
