Caterham School benefits from 200 acres including sports fields, woodland, high ropes course and outdoor learning centre. Students also enjoy a science complex, a Sports Centre with indoor pool, fitness centre and double space sports hall, a centre for Performing Arts encompassing two theatres and a dance studio, the Maggs Library and a dedicated Digital Innovation Centre.

Working with architect, Miller Bourne, and contractor, Tasker Catchpole, Style was specified to install a Skyfold in Humphreys Hall – an extension to the existing theatre space providing a professional quality studio theatre, a small dance studio, music recording facilities, office space and a large foyer/bar area.

Skyfold is the hugely innovative, fully automatic, vertically rising, acoustic, moveable wall housed discreetly in a ceiling cavity so that its hidden when not in use. At the push of a button it descends effortlessly into place, taking up no floor space whatsoever when not in use.

The Skyfold that Caterham School opted for is the Zenith model. Choosing the 47dB acoustic moveable wall in a dune darkness fabric finish, it has a thinner path of travel than a conventional Skyfold with the accordion folding elements reducing to a flat thin panel as it descends.

It makes it ideal for busy rooms or areas that may have obstructions, which could limit the use of other types of moveable wall.

“Zenith is a really fantastic innovation from Skyfold,” said Julian Sargent, Style’s group managing director - the exclusive UK partner to Skyfold in the UK.

“Due to its thin path of travel it can fit into the tightest of spaces giving Caterham School better flexibility when laying out their theatre for events.

“With an endless choice of finishes, and models ranging up to 59dB acoustic integrity, the privacy you enjoy when the wall is in place is incredible, making this an ideal operable wall for performing arts schools where concurrent activities may be taking place either side.”
